Season 3, The Voice

Meet Jordan Pruitt of Team Christina on The Voice

If you followed Disney a few years back, this might amount to a reintroduction rather than an introduction to a Voice contestant.

Jordan Pruitt, a former teen star, signed with Disney (Hollywood Records) at age 14. She released two albums; she scored two hit singles.

She told The Voice she toured with The Cheetah Girls and Miley Cyrus.

But that’s her past. The 21-year-old from Loganville, Ga., showed up on The Voice in search of musical future, a chance to make “more mature music” and a coach to help her accomplish that.

If none of The Voice judges turn around?

“I might think about another career path,” she said.

She sang “The One That Got Away” for her audition, and she can put the search for a Plan B on hold, because Christina Aguilera quickly spun her chair.

“I’ve been waiting for you, Jordan,” Christina said, meaning a singer like her. “I liked that performance so much. It was really energetic and fun.”

What the show didn’t show: Jordan’s two Hot 100 hits were released in 2006. “Jump to the Rhythm” peaked at 54 on the chart; “Outside Looking In” peaked at 77. Both were included on her “No Ordinary Girl” album, which reached 64 on the Billboard 200 the same year. That album was followed by 2008’s “Permission to Fly,” which failed to chart. Both CDs were on Hollywood Records. More important than the past is the present. Jordan is offering fans seven free songs on her website; you just have to provide an email address. The first is “Run Away,” a song she said she wrote when she felt she was failing professionally and after she had experienced her first heartbreak. In the accompanying video, Jordan tells us she started singing at age 4 in the church where her dad was a worship minister. And jokes that as a youngster, her singing voice sounded “like a chipmunk” and that she was “the national anthem girl.” Oh, and this is cute, in her post-audition video, Jordan says she used to have a Christina Aguilera Barbie doll. She used to sing Christina’s music at summer parties when she was 8 or 9. “My friends were like, ‘You could be a singer. You could.'” Guess they were right. You can hear more Jordan on her YouTube channel.
