Her audition: Kat Robichaud, 29, of Raleigh, N.C., sang “I Got the Music in Me.” The high-energy performance was the first of the season and one of the best of the auditions. By the time she finished the chorus the first time, three judges were facing in her direction. The only one who didn’t turn: Adam Levine. Kat chose Team Cee Lo.

Her background: Kat told The Voice her dad raised her on musicals like “Annie” and “The Sound of Music.” In her senior year of college, she took a different path musically, joining a rock band that toured for seven years. Kat said she loved it, “but we barely made any money.” She lost her dad in February and arrived on The Voice determined to make him proud.

On picking Cee Lo: She says she feels like she has a lot in common with Cee Lo vocally. “He’s going to be able to help me really hone my craft, you know, and tweak my voice; not change it but make it stronger. And help me to be able to do more with it and have more control over it.” Plus, she said Cee Lo is a great performer, citing a particularly impressive Video Music Awards performance when he showed up dressed like Darth Vader. “I think as far as just having fun together, it’s just going to be a blast,” she said.

What the show didn’t show: The band Kat toured with for seven years was called The Design and released two albums — “Laziest Perfectionist” in 2008 and “Young America” in December 2011. You can check out two tracks from “Young America” below. Kat said the band broke up in October. “I was just spending so much time on the road and we were just going in circles and just not really getting anywhere. But I never had any intention of not playing music.”

Quote: “What I want to do with this is I want to re-emerge in the scene as a solo artist and do stuff that’s more in my vein of the kind of music that I like — glam rock and theater-esque rock.”

On iTunes: The aforementioned albums, both 12 tracks, plus her Voice performance.
