His audition: Lain Roy, 22, of Larkspur, Colorado, auditioned with “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi. He prompted quick chair turns from John and Gwen. Gwen called him a really good singer, but the rest of the feedback got way off track with talk of Berklee and John’s Covid-19 long-distance handshake stick. Lain opted to join Team Gwen.

* According to his web bio, Lain grew up in a small Colorado town in the Rocky Mountains.
* He’s another of the Season 19 contestants who had tried a singing show before, making Hollywood on Season 15 of American Idol. That was the show’s last season on FOX.
* He also studied with Mama Jan Smith, who served as a vocal coach for Justin Bieber, Usher, Nicki Minaj and more, according to Lain’s bio on SoundBetter.com.
* He attended Berklee College of Music and appears to have graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in music business and music production and engineering.
* In June 2019, he released a five-song debut pop EP called “Nobody But You.” Lead single “I’m So Done” is especially impressive.
* He recorded that EP by traveling back and forth from Boston to Nashville while attending Berklee, according to that web bio.
* But his most popular song on streaming sites to date has been a cover of Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” released in May 2019.

* Lain turned 22 in May and celebrates with all his favorite foods — pancakes, mac and cheese, king crab legs, steak and homemade cheesecake. “Literally have the best family ever,” he wrote on Instagram.
* Lain describes his music as “having pop melodies with natural sounds” and says his influences include Gavin DeGraw, Parachute and Maroon 5.
