Her audition: Marybeth Byrd, 18, OF Armorel, Ark., performed “Angel from Montgomery” by Bonnie Raitt. She turned in a very impressive performance on a really nice song choice for showing off what she’s capable of vocally. She got chair turns from Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and John Legend in a heartbeat. And delivered a great ending even though there wasn’t much to gain. Blake Shelton turned, thought already convinced he’d been blocked by Kelly. Indeed, that turned out to be the case. John said he was in love with Marybeth’s vocals from the first line and thinks she has a versatile voice. MaryBeth opted to join Team John.

Here’s more about Marybeth.

* According to her Voice bio, Marybeth grew up with a terrible stutter and was constantly teased about it. Speech therapy didn’t help, she didn’t stutter when she sang and music became her refuge.

* In 2017, she was named Miss Greater Jonesboro Outstanding Teen with a focus on vocal talent and a platform of Stranger Safety: Be Smart, Cool and Safe.

* She went on to become second runner-up in the 2017 Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen competition. Her vocal performance won the preliminary round for Artistic Expression in talent.

* She was also part of the Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen competition in 2016 and won the award for top vocal talent.

* Marybeth has apparently been performing music for quite a while. She has a Reverb page featuring a country single called “Don’t Look the Other Way” from when she was just 11 years old.

* Her bio on that page says she’s been singing since she was 2 years old and by 11 had already performed in the finals at the Mid-South Fair Jr. Talent Show, the local St. Jude Cable/Radiothon.

* She’s a graduate of Armorel High School.

* Marybeth is entering her freshman year at the University of Arkansas as a member of the Class of 2023.

* She also works with her father on his food truck, called Big Byrd’s BBQ.
