Rivers Grayson of The Voice Season 25

His audition: Rivers Grayson, 27, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., performed “Babylon” by David Gray. The Voice aired only about 20 seconds of his performance. John Legend turned, giving Rivers a spot on the show. John called his tone “gorgeous” and said he executed the song with “beauty and precision.”

Here’s more about Rivers:

* Anyone wanting to hear more of Rivers’ cover of “Babylon” can head to his Instagram page, where he’s posted a longer clip than what we saw on the show.

* Writes Rivers: “I was practicing in my hotel room one night and decided to record a reimagined version of the song for myself. Only had my guitar and laptop, not even a proper microphone. … It’s not perfect, but it’s something. It’s quiet, so don’t be afraid to turn it up.”

* If you like his tone, check out his original music as well. It has a mellow, singer-songwriter vibe.

* Rivers released a debut single called “Never Thought” in 2020, and another called “Carousel” in 2021.

* His most impressive project to date is a five-song EP called “Vignettes,” released in late February. Be sure to check out standout tracks “New York City” and “Like I Used To.”

* Says Rivers: “These last few years the plot of my own life has felt stifled at times, and these are the songs that have contained my feelings, memories, and my reflections on the passing of time.

* “Releasing them feels like a letting go of sorts, a much needed relinquishment for me,” he adds. “I’m glad to have them out of my hands and out of my head. I’m proud of these songs, and I hope you all can find something for yourself in them.”

* According to his Voice bio, skateboarding is another of Rivers’ passions. It’s a hobby he started at age 6, eventually entering competitions as well.

* Growing up in a community known for the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and Fame Recording Studio, Rivers also became interested in guitar and singing, performing with the worship band at his church for a time.
