Sam Robbins is one of the singer-songwriters to audition for Season 15 of The Voice.

Once upon a time, back in high school, Sam Robbins envisioned a career as a punk rock drummer.

One performance as a frontman convinced him to change musical directions.

We’ll likely see the end result on Season 15 of The Voice. Sam is one of the singers to announce that he auditioned for the show.

The Voice returns to NBC Monday, Sept. 24. Here’s more about Sam.

* He’s a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Portsmouth, N.H. who writes in his Twitter bio that his sounds is “reminiscent of classic singer songwriters from the 1970s like James Taylor, John Denver. and Neil Young.”

* According to his website bio, Sam started learning drums and piano when he was young, then fell in love with the guitar at age 13.

* He described his evolution as a musician when featured on a Country 102.5 Local Catch segment. “I played drums in a punk band, and we were not very good,” he says. “That’s when I was 13 to 16 and I was like, ‘I’m going to be a drummer. I’m going to be in a punk band, and I’m going to play drums forever.’ And then I played guitar and sang at a talent show once. And I was like, ‘This is way better.”

* By the time he was a sophomore in high school, he released his first EP, according to that website bio. With the punk and? It doesn’t specify.

* He’s now a senior at the Berklee College of Music, where he’s majoring in songwriting. In fact, he received the Pat Pattison Songwriting Award from the college earlier this year.

* Sam’s Facebook page indicates that he’s played more than 500 shows over the past three years.

* In 2017, he was invited to open for B.J. Thomas at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, N.H. He’s also opened for Aaron Carter, Amy Grant and former American Idol finalist Alex Preston.

* Want to hear original music from Sam? Well, you don’t have to go looking for that high school EP. He released a three-song EP, “Up North,” in 2016. Last year, he released a pair of singles, “Even in May” and “Now With You.” The latter is available as a free download from his website, and you can check out the song in the video below.

* On Facebook, he classifies his music as Americana, country, folk and pop.
