His audition: Vaughn Mogel, 27, of Beaumont, Texas, performed “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran. John Legend and Kelly Clarkson turned before Vaughn hit the chorus. Ariana Grande followed shortly after. Ariana called his performance “so beautiful” and said she loved the break in his voice. John says he sounded seasoned in spite of his inexperience. Kelly praised his precision and emotion. Vaughn decided to join Team Ariana.

Here’s more about Vaughn:

* He’s a registered nurse, following in the footsteps of his grandmother, father and mother.

* He works in the oncology unit where many of the patients are facing potentially terminal illness. He says he enjoys singing to help them with the coping and healing process.

* He grew up in the Phillippines. His family moved to the U.S. when he was about 12 years old. Vaughn said he already knew some English because his parents were always big fans of rock and roll music.

* Still, according to his Voice bio, Vaughn felt like an outsider and became shy and reserved. Joining choir as a high school senior helped him gain confidence.

* He also began songwriting when he was in high school and told Voice Views he has a few unreleased songs. “I became so busy with my nursing career that I have completely abandoned those projects. But after my experience during blinds, I may have opened that door again!”

* Vaughn also has limited experience as a performer. “I do not usually perform in front of a huge crowd, and whenever I get the chance to sing, I would usually just politely decline. I initially thought that I wouldn’t be able to perform on The Voice, but boy I was wrong!”

* He added that he initially just joked about auditioning for The Voice, but said his patients “have always pushed me to pursue something more with my voice.”

* That blind audition was his first time performing “The A Team” in public. But his friends had always told him his voice seemed well suited for the song.

* As for chosing Team Ariana? “I have always been a huge Ariana fan, and I honestly didn’t think she’d turn for me. I was blown away when she turned her chair for me.”

* Besides Ariana, Vaughn says his musical inspirations include Bruno Mars, Sam Smith and Adele.
