Wade Cota auditioned for American Idol Season 17

Wade Cota auditioned for American Idol Season 17.

Wade Cota has spent most of his musical life performing in bands.

But he’ll be going solo on national TV this spring.

Wade is one of the artists to already announce that he auditioned for Season 17 of American Idol.

Here’s more about Wade.

* He lives in Phoenix, Ariz., graduated from Moon Valley High School and studied at Glendale Community College, according to his Facebook bio.

* Wade’s been performing as lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Sugar Water, a band that also includes Noah Draughon on lead guitar, Juju Stone on bass and Austin Moore on drums.

* The Sugar Water Facebook page describes the band this way: “We are like if John Mayer and The Foo Fighters had a baby. I’m not gonna say we’re the best band in the Universe, but we are definitely the best band in the World.”

* In an interview with VoyagePhoenix.com, Wade says he grew up in Section 8 housing and was often bullied and teased on the streets.

* The two constants in his life, he said in that interview, were his mother, who “would tell me stories of how I was special, and I was made to do better than what we had,” and music.

* Wade formed his first band when he was just 12. “I’ve been writing music, and performing theatre ever since. It’s the only place I ever fit in,” he said in the aforementioned interview.

* He says he spent 12 years singing metal music with the same group of guy. That was before Sugar Water, which he calls “my baby.”

* Sugar Water doesn’t appear to have released music, but you can check out three originals on the band’s website, covers ranging from Hozier to Chris Stapleton on the band’s YouTube channel and I’ve embedded a live version of one original below.
