Here’s more about Wyatt. The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 20.
* He’s a Fredericksburg, Va.-based jazz singer “inspired by the timeless legends of the past and the Great American Songbook.” In other words, Frank Sinatra and company.
* But he wasn’t always a jazz singer. He spent four years as a guitar player and background vocalist in Chasing Avenir, a rock band fronted by his brother.
* Chasing Avenir released an EP called “Blue” in 2018 that’s still available on streaming sites.
* In an interview with NBC12, Wyatt says Michael Buble’s “Call Me Irresponsible” was his introduction to jazz and he eventually fell in love with the genre and decided to make it his musical focus.
* His website bio says he was enthralled with “the emotion, phrasing, vocal technique, and expression of the timeless (jazz) classics.
* Wyatt released his debut jazz album, “Renaissance,” in November 2019, calling it “a rebirth of the raw, organic, genuine sound of the Great American Songbook!”
* The album features eight tracks, including a pair of originals Wyatt wrote with producer / guitarist Chris Whiteman. Check “Take My Hand” below.
* “Renaissance” also includes two songs written by composer David Mann that had never been heard or released before. Wyatt got permission from Mann’s son and estate to record the songs.
* Mann, who died in 2002, wrote the 1955 Frank Sinatra hit “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning” and served as President Harry S. Truman’s official White House pianist. The album also includes Wyatt’s cover of “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning.”
* Wyatt previously released a debut single, “With You” in 2019, and a cover of “Silent Night.”
