And she came a step closer to that goal this week, releasing “Pacify Her.”
True to the lyrics, it features a blue boy. It also features Melanie in two roles, herself as she yearns for the blue boy’s affections and the young woman who currently as them.
Of course, being a Melanie Martinez video, there are plenty of unusual twists, like Melanie twisting her head right off.
Oh, it also has 8.7 million views on YouTube in less than a week. Pretty impressive, right?
The only “Cry Baby” songs that haven’t been committed to video yet are “Mad Hatter” and “Mr. Potato Head.”
Meanwhile, I think it’s high time to proclaim “Cry Baby” the most successful post-Voice album in the show’s history.
Sure, Jordan Smith recorded the highest Billboard debut (2) and the most first-week sales (54,000).
But Melanie’s album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, has been certified gold (500,000 copies sold) and has been on the Billboard 200 for a staggering 65 weeks. This week, it checked in at number 71.
Melanie finished Top 6 on Season 3 of The Voice.
