Melanie Martinez will release Portals, her third album, on Friday.

“I’m back from the dead,” Melanie Martinez sings repeatedly in the catchy chorus for her new song, “Death.”

Melanie, one of the most successful Voice alum ever, is about to release her third album “Portals.”

And “Death” apparently refers to “Cry Baby,” the character she introduced fans to on her 2015 debut album.

The first teaser for her new music landed last month on Instagram. A snippet of “Death” plays in the background of an image of a giant mushroom with “RIP CryBaby” carved into its base.

The first comment from a fan on that post reads: “Damn the ‘rip crybaby’ makes me so sad, crybaby is literally my childhood, but I’m exited at the same for the new era.”

Apparently, that fan is far from alone. Posted two days ago, the music video for “Death” has already been viewed nearly 4 million times on YouTube.

All 10 of the TikToks Melanie has posted promoting her new music have been viewed millions of times.

And “Death,” released a week ago, has already been streamed more than 10 million times on Spotify.

“Portals,” set for a Friday release, will mark Melanie’s first album since 2019’s album-film combo “K-12,” which followed Cry Baby through her teenage years.

That album landed at number 3 on Billboard’s album chart upon its release. “Cry Baby” debuted at number 6 on the same chart, went double platinum and spent two straight years on Billboard’s Top 200.
