After The Voice

Melanie Martinez serves up two more mesmerizing music videos

Martinez has said she’d someday like to direct a horror film.

She’d probably be very good at it. Just check out her latest self-directed music videos.

It’s a double-feature featuring the songs “Tag You’re It” and “Milk and Cookies” from her acclaimed ‘Cry Baby” album.

In the course of about seven minutes, Melanie becomes a victim of the Big Bad Wolf, who drugs and kidnaps her.

Have no fear, she gets revenge. With milk and cookies, of course.

For those wondering where these stories come from, in a recent interview with Vogue, Melanie says these songs are two from the album that she has no personal connection with.

“I have a great family life and my parents are super-supportive of everything that I want to do, and I’m grateful for that,” Melanie told the site

“But I had a lot of friends who had issues with their families, so I’ve always loved writing songs about things that a lot of people don’t usually write about because it’s an uncomfortable subject or just depressing or whatever.

“To me, I think it’s really important that everyone has music that they can connect to and music that will help them. Because music is therapy for me, and I always want my music to be that for other people as well.”

Melanie also said she’s finished writing the material for her second album. For those who don’t recall, it will be about the town in which Cry Baby lives and the people she meets there.

Meanwhile, in an age when albums don’t sell, that “Cry Baby” collection is still number 52 on the Billboard 200, 53 weeks after its release. I’m pretty sure no other former artist from The Voice has had an album stay on the charts for that long.

As for the new videos: They’ve been viewed more than 1.8 million times. In two days.
