For a 14 year old, Mikaela Astel seemed remarkably calm as she performed BØRNS “Electric Love” and earned a spot on Season 16 of The Voice in a blind audition that aired Monday.

Mikaela admits that wasn’t necessarily the case.

“I may have seemed calm on The Voice stage, but I was not at all,” the teen from Queens, N.Y., told Voice Views. “I had been freaking out right before going out on the stage.

“When I got up on the stage, I just took a deep breath, strummed my first chord and began to sing.”

But the result was almost immediate. Kelly Clarkson turned her chair as soon as she heard Mikaela’s unique tone. John Legend soon followed suit.

And when Mikaela finished her performance, superlatives followed, Kelly called her voice “beautiful and angelic.”

“It was so relieving when Kelly (Clarkson) pushed her button so soon and then John a little after. Although, I do think having their faces turned to me while I was performing definitely made me 1,000 times more nervous.

“In the end this was such a crazy fun experience that I never thought I would have. I am so extremely grateful!
