Natasia Greycloud didn’t win her Team Jennifer Hudson battle round match on The Voice.
But as she stood on stage, on the verge of elimination, she held out hope.
After all, the rendition of John Mayer’s “Gravity” she and Mike Parker performed had Voice coach Kelly Clarkson on her feet for most of the performance.
“That moment is pretty surreal actually,” Natasia told Voice Views, looking back on a battle that was filmed a couple of months ago. “There’s so many emotions.
“You’re trying to be in the moment but your mind is going in a million different places. So I had a little bit of hope though because Kelly did turn around (for me) in the blinds, that it was a possibility.”
It turned into more than a possibility.
Once Mike was declared the winner, Kelly quickly scooped in and stole Natasia for her team, giving her second life on the show.
Meanwhile, Mike said he was happy to be able to showcase what he could do with the song Jennifer served up during the battle round.
The 23-year-old former football star from Gainesville, Va., had performed “So Sick” by NE-YO and barely made the show courtesy of a last-second chair turn from Jennifer.
“I think I was able to express myself better with this song, with the type of artist that I want to be,” he said of “Gravity.”
“The battle round was just more of me getting or letting the coaches know exactly the person and the artist that I am.”
Both singers now advance to the knockout round, which begins Monday, Oct. 29.
Natasia says she thinks Kelly is a great fit as a coach.
The 29-year-old from Nashvilel added that she wants to show off more of her on-stage presence during the upcoming round.
“I’ve kind of shown vocally some things that I’m capable of, but I’m excited to kind of dive into the performance side and (I’m) super excited for these knockouts. They’re going to be awesome. So I really think Kelly was the perfect match to go forward with.”
The Season 15 battle round on The Voice continues Monday and concludes Tuesday on NBC.
