Katrina Cain proved she can rework a classic rock song when she performed “Rhiannon” during the blind auditions on The Voice.

She proved she’s adept at handling a country song when she sang Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” en route to victory in the battle round.

But there’s another side of her artistry she’s eager to show fans of The Voice.

“I’m really hoping to be able to show a little bit more of an electro pop side to my voice,” said Katrina, front woman for the electro pop band TomKat since it formed in 2015.

“I know that I’ve gotten a lot of comments that I should be doing country,” the 29-year-old from Denton, Texas, added. “And I do a lot of like acoustic music, but, you know, just in my regular life. But I’m really hoping to show them that I could be a much bigger performer.”

In the battle round, Blake Shelton paired Katrina with a pure country singer, Rachel Messer, and gave them a country classic to sing.

But Katrina said there were a couple factors working in her favor. From her experience in a variety of bands, she’s used to singing with others. And “Angel” wasn’t exactly a song she didn’t know.

“Angel is definitely very far from what I like to sing, but one thing that worked to my advantage is that I’ve actually sung the song a bunch before,” she told Voice Views.

“I do a lot of cover gigs, both with bands and solo vocal piano gigs. And so I’ve sung that song a lot before.

“But I also found that the challenge was to make it different and interesting and kind of reconnect to it instead of just, you know, singing what I always sing. So I think I managed to do that.”

Katrina said she also learned a lot during the battle round experience, though some of those pointers wound up on the editing room floor, including a discussion of vocal tone with Team Blake adviser Keith Urban, talking with her coaches about trusting her vocal instincts and “great comments about emotion” from Kelly once the battle ended.

“So I was bummed that everyone didn’t get to see those portions, but we had some great coaching sessions,” Katrina said.

We’ll see Katrina next during the Season 15 knockout round, which begins Monday, Oct. 29. Since no one stole Rachel, she was eliminated from the competition.

The battle round continues Monday and Tuesday on NBC.
