The band’s first album of all-new material in nearly five years sold 26,000 equivalent units, according to Billboard.
That means the album did better than the great hits collection the band released in 2016. It checked in at number 43 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 15,000.
That means the new album did worse that 2013’s “Baptized,” which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 and sold 55,000 copies in week one.
But keep in mind that album sales as a whole have plummeted in the intervening years.
“Cage to Rattle” also debuted at number two on Billboard’s rock albums chart, behind “Vicious,” the new album from Lzzy Hale-fronted Halestorm.
Meanwhile, fans of the band have plenty to say about the new album, and the feedback is quite mixed.
Lots of folks were hoping the album would have a stronger rock bent. Others are thrilled with the 10-song collection.
A sampling from the Daughtry Facebook page:
Teresa Roby: “Chris I bought ur cd yesterday 7-27-18. And I ABSOLUTELY!! Love it!! I just fade away with ur voice very few can do that for me.I love all the songs but I think deep end is my favorite.. so thrilled u guys came out with a new album I have been waiting patiently.and like always you didn’t disappoint.”
Craig Rapson: “I had concerns when the last album took a different direction and unfortunately this new album has continued that trend. Apart from a couple of strong tracks the rest are average at best. As a long time fan and having seen them numerous times (still a great live act) this is quite a disappointment.”
Jack Colgan: “I gotta be honest, I was not expecting to like the album as much as I do, as I didn’t love Backbone. This might be my 2nd favorite album from you, next to Break the Spell.”
Ryan Bloye: “It’s got great groove to it, but MAN.. Where is the rock?! Hoping you guys go HEAVY next time around! 🙏 It’s been a minute.”
Jen Johnson: “Well, guys, it was well worth the wait. I love it. Listened to it twice before work this morning. Amazing. Don’t listen to the haters; can’t please everyone. A massive well done guys.”

I don’t think it’s a bad album. I think it needs to be a few songs longer and needs a few more uptempo songs.
