James Durbin, a Season 10 standout on American Idol, is planning his next album.

As he prepares to release album number four later this year, James is turning to Pledge Music again to offer pre-order packages for fans.

James hasn’t announced a name for the new album, but he has announced a release date: Oct. 19.

And the guy who’s also serving as lead vocalist for Quiet Riot and begged American Idol fans to “give metal a chance” back in Season 10 says this won’t be a hard rock album.

“I just listened through all the songs recorded so far for my new album, ” James writes on Facebook. “I can say without a doubt that I’m breaking new ground for myself as an artist, a songwriter and a storyteller.

“I’m bursting at the seams to share this music with you. It’s not gonna rock you hard or melt your face. It’s far from that kind of album.

“It’s introspective and highly personal. It’s sorrowful and emotional. But I think most importantly it’s real. I just wrote my truths to music and am trying my best to authentically showcase my strengths and even my weaknesses through the production and recordings.”

Through the Pledge Music campaign, a download of the new album is $10. A signed poster is available for $15.

Someone has already snatched up the harmonica James used to record the album. But three guitars were still available. So is a blazer James wore on Idol and lots of other goodies. You can check out all the offers here.

James finished fourth on Season 10 of Idol behind Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart.
