Idols on the Music Chart

Music charts: A mixed bag for the Idols

0

Fantasia has another song off her 'Back to Me' album climbing the R&B singles chart. (AP Photo)The music charts delivered a mixed bag of news for the Idols this week.

Among the bright spots, Fantasia has another R&B hit on her hands. “I’m Doing Me” jumps seven spots, from 37 to 30, on the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart this week.

It’s the followup to “Bittersweet,” the first single off Fantasia’s new album. That song peaked at number seven on the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart.

Among the bad news, David Archuleta’s second album, “The Other Side of Down,” plummeted big time on the Billboard 200, dropping from a number 13 debut to number 71.

It’s reminiscent of Katharine McPhee’s second album, which debuted at 27, dropped to 107 in week two and was gone from the charts after that.

Of course, that album was released in January, when the charts are less competitive. And, quite frankly, it isn’t as good as David’s second album. So let’s hope “The Other Side of Down” shows some staying power in the weeks ahead.

Hey, David fans, I recently posted more photos from his recent York concert at the Idol Chatter Facebook page. Be sure to check out that photo gallery here.

Speaking of Kat, her new Christmas album debuts at number 11 on the holiday album chart. That’s ninth among debuts, behind the likes of Celtic Thunder, the Canadian Tenors and the Indigo Girls. Topping that chart: Lady Antebellum’s EP “Merry Little Christmas.”

Other highlights:

Carrie Underwood’s quest for a fourth straight number one country hit off “Play On” appears stalled. “Mama’s Song” hangs at number 14 on the country singles chart for the second week in a row. And the climb to number one isn’t going to get easier with Taylor Swift releasing new music.

Daughtry’s quest for a number one hit on the adult pop song chart is similarly stalled. “September” checks in at number two on that chart for the third straight week.
