I’m pretty sure Rizzi Myers set a speed record this week with how quickly she got new original music to fans after a stint on The Voice.
On April 2, The Voice aired the battle round match that resulted in Rizzi’s elimination from the show.
On Tuesday, just two weeks later, Rizzi released her impressive new six-song EP called “Stronger.”
As Rizzi explains below, the title is a nod to the fortitude required to be a wife, mother, full-time songwriter and artist all at the same time.
But while I’ve embedded “Stronger” below the interview, be sure to check out the rest of the tracks as well. The sultry, sassy “Motives” might be my favorite and “Nobody” and “Circus” are fresh-sounding R&B/pop tracks.
Here’s what Rizzi, 29, of Hermitage, Tenn., told Voice Views about her latest release. Pre-Voice, she released a 2017 EP called “Freedom.”
Voice Views: Can you share the story behind one of the songs on the EP?
Rizzi: I named the EP “Stronger” because as a young mother of two kids, being an artist, wife, and songwriter, it can be overwhelming. I sometimes struggle with my appearance and questioning if I’m enough.
I wrote the song “Stronger” because I finally believe in myself. I finally love myself. I’m ready. I’m ready to keep fighting for my dreams and be the person I always knew I was deep down! Everyone struggles. Everyone has doubt. Pick yourself back up, honey; you got this!!
Voice Views: How long had you been working on this project, and why did you decide to release it so soon?
Rizzi: I’ve been working on the project for about four months. I wanted to have music ready for my fans that I’ve made on the show. Giving your fans what they want is very important to me. I had something I wanted to say and they were there to listen and support me! Love my #rizzilions.
Voice Views: How would you compare the music on “Stronger” to the original music you’ve released previously?
Rizzi: I feel like my old sound was definitely more kind of indie pop and this “Stronger” EP hits harder. I have more important topics to touch on and music is always changing and growing. I go with the flow of where my heart leads me♡
Voice Views: Being a songwriter by trade, I imagine you had a hand in writing all the songs. Is that the case?
Rizzi: I wrote almost every single word and melody on this album. My producer helps capture the sound I want and helps bring my vision to life. My team is incredible! But every song you hear has been pulled out of me. I love creating. Music is life.
Voice Views: Anything else you’d like to add?
Rizzi: I’m grateful for everything God has given me. Thank you to my fans and the show “The Voice ” for such an amazing opportunity! I’m very humbled and blessed.
