Turns out American Idol will go head to head with The Voice for at least one more Monday night.

And in a quite unusual way.

For the first time ever, Idol will air a two-hour “Meet the Finalists” episode on Monday.

The show is promising never-before-seen footage of the Season 17 Top 8 and a closer look at this year’s contestants.

It’s not a bad idea at all since Idol has pulled together what I’d consider one of its most talented casts ever.

As for what we’ll see that we haven’t before, executive producer Trish Kinane elaborated during a recent interview with Billboard, saying we’ll see eight- to nine-minute clips on each of the Top 8.

“If they sang two songs in Hollywood Week and we only showed one, we’re going to show the other one,” she said. “It’s going to be really interesting if you want to know more about who the top eight are.”

The Idol Top 10 return to the stage Sunday night with Disney-themed performances.
