Scotty McCreery is back at the top of the Billboard country albums chart.

But the first-week sales numbers for his new album again show how tough second albums can be for winners of American Idol.

Like his first album, Scotty McCreery's sophomore release 'See You Tonight' debuted atop the Billboard country album chart.

Like his first album, Scotty McCreery’s sophomore release ‘See You Tonight’ debuted atop the Billboard country album chart.

Billboard reports that 52,000 of Scotty’s “See You Tonight” albums sold in its first week.

That’s just 26 percent of first-week sales for his debut album, which landed at the top of the Billboard 200 and the country chart when it was released in 2011 to first-week sales of 197,000.

“See You Tonight” is sitting at number six on the Billboard 200 this morning, behind new albums by Pearl Jam (at number one), Paul McCartney and the Avett Brothers and second-week holdovers from Miley Cyrus and Drake.

The release of Scotty’s sophomore album, which has garnered mostly positive reviews, has also provided a boost by the lead single of the same name. “See You Tonight” the song moved up to number 30 on the country airplay chart this week.

This marks the second straight week a new release from a singing show winner has topped the country album chart.

Last week, Cassadee Pope’s “Frame by Frame” landed there.

This week, the debut country album from the Season 3 winner of The Voice slips to number five on the country albums chart and from number 9 to number 18 on the Billboard 200.
