Sawyer Fredericks’ debut album, “A Good Storm,” rolled in on Friday.
And it’s doing a decent job of taking the iTunes album charts by storm.
As of 8 a.m., it had already cracked the Top 10, trailing the likes of Beyonce, Drake and Meghan Trainor, who also dropped a new album Friday. At 9 a.m., it was still holding steady at number nine on that chart.
On the iTunes’ singer-songwriter chart? The Season 8 winner of The Voice was already number one.
“A Good Storm” features Sawyer’s first two singles, “Take It All” and the recently released “Four Pockets.”
Four of the 10 songs were previously released as an EP late last year, including a brilliant duet called “Stranger” that features touring partner and Voice colleague Mia Z.
Among the new songs, my early favorites are “This Fire” and “Shots Fired.”
Sawyer has also announced a deluxe version of the album with three extra songs available through FYE stores.
It’s going to be very interesting to watch how this album sells. Sawyer was a runaway winner on Season 8, placing eight straight solo performances on the Top 10 on iTunes once the finals began.
Earlier this year, Season 9 Voice champ Jordan Smith established new highs for a former contestant on The Voice when his debut album landed at number two on Billboard and sold 54,000 copies.
Before that, Melanie Martinez had scored the highest Billboard debut; her “Cry Baby” album hit number six. And Cassadee Pope had the best first-week sales, moving 43,000 copies of her “Frame by Frame” album in 2013.
As for fan reaction for Sawyer? They’re loving the new music, of course. A couple sample comments from iTunes …
Cristi Lacuna Watanabe” “I got it a few hours ago (iTunes-Japan) and I’m playing it non-stop. I’m so overwhelmed by how incredibly awesome the album is. Thank you, Sawyer for sharing your music.”
Marie Tudisco: “It’s so good. Great choice for the next single 4 pockets. The music in Shots Fired is a gift, nothing short of an incredible gift you are giving to the world. You’re even better live and that’s usually the other way around. It’s unheard of that every single song on this album is is a hit. I’m slap happy.”
Kimberly MacInnis: “The best Friday the 13th EVER!”
To celebrate the album release, Sawyer is holding a Twitter Q&A today at 2 p.m. On Twitter, he’s @SawyerFrdrx
