Song by song grades for Team Legend

Team John Legend took six singers into The Voice Season 16 Top 24 show Monday night.

They included four-chair-turn recipients Maelyn Jarmon and Shawn Sounds, plus Jacob Maxwell, Lisa Ramey, Jimmy Mowery and Celia Babini, the singer John stole during the cross battles.

Of the 24 singers who performed Monday, eight will advance via fan voting when results are announced Tuesday night. Then each coach will be able to save one artist.

Here are song by song grades for Team Legend from Monday’s show.

Celia Babini (Team Legend) The Chain by Fleetwood Mac — This is one of the performances I was looking forward to Monday night, and Celia didn’t disappoint. Loved the attitude, loved the way she attacked the song, loved the way she interacted with the crowd. Plus she’s got a distinct sound. I want this young lady in the Top 13. And I want to hear more of her original music when the show ends. Grade: B+

Maelyn Jarmon (Team Legend) Fallingwater by Maggie Rogers — Look, Maelyn had already proven her four-chair turn was no fluke. And this performance proved she belongs in the Top 13. She might be the best female singer in the Top 24. I was sold on this performance by the 30-second mark, and then she capped it off with that wonderfully delicate ending. Grade: A–

Jacob Maxwell (Team Legend) Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler — The full version of this song is quite long. Maybe that’s why it sounded like Jacob started in the middle of the song. Anyway, he found his groove in a couple of spots, especially that ending. But this version isn’t likely to make anyone forget the ache in Chloe Kohanski’s voice when she covered the same song so magnificently a couple of seasons ago. Grade: C

Jimmy Mowery (Team Legend) Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer — Jimmy brought great energy and stage presence to this performance. I wasn’t as sold on the vocal, especially when he hit that catchy chorus. Grade: C

Lisa Ramey (Team Legend) The Weight by The Band — Great style, great performance from a young lady who’s returned to The Voice as though she has something to prove after failing to turn a chair in Season 15. But it’s a darn good thing I know the song, because I was having a heck of a time understanding what Lisa was singing. Still, I’d like to see her in the Top 13. Grade: B–

Shawn Sounds (Team Legend) Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder — Hey, nice dance moves from the big guy. That little stutter step midway through the performance especially had me smiling. Nice song choice and a solid — if not especially memorable — vocal on a night when lots of the male contestants seemed to stumble a bit vocally. Grade: B
