Chris Jamison reintroduced himself to fans his way this weekend by releasing a four-track EP, his first original music since finishing third on Season 7 of The Voice nearly two years ago.
The emphasis is on his way; that’s why the EP is titled “I am Chris Jamison.”
Chris posted a recent podcast, detailing the frustration he felt while signed to a record label after the show.
In short, he called The Voice a fabulous experience, but takes the blame for not speaking up when he didn’t feel comfortable with his image on the show — that of a “sex symbol, lady’s man, heartthrob kind of guy … But that wasn’t me at all.”
Once at the label, he found himself trying to fit that image. It didn’t work. And he talked about the frustration of not being able to release new music while the momentum he had gained from appearing on The Voice slowly slipped away.
Now the new music is here, in the form of four songs Chris wrote, including the autobiographical lead single “Better Man.”
This hasn’t changed: Chris’ impressive vocal range. You can check it out on another of the EP highlights, “Heartbeat Away,” embedded below.
And it turns out that not all of Chris’ post-Voice momentum has vanished.
Saturday night, 24 hours after the EP was released, it was still sitting in the Top 20 on iTunes pop albums chart.
Meanwhile, fans are singing Chris’ praises on Facebook. A sampling:
Nicole Bernardi: “I’m just enchanted. Truly madly deeply in love with this EP. Just can’t wait to hear a full album.”
Shanna Brownell: “Just got it on iTunes and it is absolutely amazing!!! So excited you were able to make an EP. I’ve been waiting a long time for music from you and you did not disappoint. Great job!!”
Georgia Young: “I love this Album! My favorite Song, Guilty? Better Man? Truth? Heartbeat Away? They are all my Favorites! What a Gorgeous Album!”
As for Chris, here’s what he wrote in a message to fans: “THIS is my introduction into the music industry and the first of many projects! Thank you for your continued support. This has been a long time coming!”
You can check out full-length versions of all the songs on the EP on Chris’ YouTube channel.
