Cassadee Pope, Season 3, The Voice

What to expect from Cassadee’s post-Voice album

The Voice put on a very nice Season 3 finale. The finalists and other Season 3 contestants were involved in nearly every musical performance.

My biggest complaint: The biggest news of the night came so late in the show, we barely had time to watch Cassadee Pope react to her victory.

But Cassadeee’s out on her victory tour now, appearing on The Tonight Show on Wednesday, Today this morning and doing interviews with the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard.

And she’s always asked the question that’s forefront in my mind: What will a Cassadee Pope album sound like?

Her answer is always the same: Don’t be surprised if it includes a little touch of country.

This from the 23-year-old who hit The Voice after fronting a pop-rock band called “Hey, Monday” that used to be part of the Warped Tour.

But on The Voice, she hit number one on iTunes three times, all with her take on country songs — “Over You,” “Stupid Boy” and “Cry.”

Hard to argue against that kind of success.

Cassadee gave the most precise description of an upcoming album to Billboard, saying: “If you were to take Taylor Swift, make it edgier with a just a little hint of country and make the lyrics a little more mature, that would be the direction I’d like to take.”

She told Jay Leno she’s always wanted to cross over into country music eventually.

“It’s always kinda been in my heart,” she said “I grew up singing country music.”

Oh, and Cassadee also said she’s asked Blake Shelton to be part of that first album. He, of course, said he’d be honored to participate.

Given Cassadee’s level of experience, I’d be surprised if we have to wait as long for new music from her as we do for new material from some singing show winners.

Meanwhile, you can always check out the four-track EP Cassadee released in May. It convinced me she could win The Voice the first time I heard it.
