American Idol brought back lots of fan favorites for its Season 22 finale on Sunday. Every member of the Top 12, in fact.

The show didn’t bring back Ziggy Krassenberg, the eccentric pop singer from the Netherlands.

But he still expressed his gratitude to the show in a heartfelt post on social media.

Ziggy captured the attention of American Idol fans with a pair of emotional performances during Hollywood Week, covering “All I Want” and “This Is Me.”

But he wound up in a sing-off with Mackenzie Sol for the final spot in Idol’s Top 24. And the judges chose Mackenzie.

Ziggy took the outcome in stride, urging fans to continue supporting his friends on American Idol.

Fans urged Idol to bring back Ziggy, something that obviously didn’t happen.

But every week since, Ziggy had been playing along, posting what would have been his American Idol performances on social media, beginning with a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” to coincide with the Top 24 show.

Every week until the finale, that is. Instead, Ziggy posted a series of photos from his time on Idol, highlighted by one of him receiving a hug from Katy Perry.

“I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible opportunity to participate in this season of American Idol …” he writes on Instagram.

“Although I was not brought back this season, I am still overjoyed and deeply touched by the outpouring of support from Idol fans and my fellow contestants and the Crew. Their encouragement and enthusiasm have meant the world to me, and I will cherish these memories forever.”

What’s next for Ziggy?

He’s preparing for a June 8 performance at the Pride Festival in Zutphen, Netherlands, his birthplace.
