Can Carrie Underwood score a third straight number one country single off her new album, “Play On?”
She’s certainly heading in the right direction.
“Undo It,” her latest single, has jumped from number 14 to number six on the country charts in the last three weeks. This week, it moved up three spots, from number nine to six.
Currently resting at number one: Miranda Lambert’s “The House that Built Me.”
Carrie’s single is also number 23 among Billboard’s Hot 100 singles while her album moved from 24 to 22 on the Billboard 200, but dipped from four to seven on the country album chart.
Here’s a rundown on how others Idols fared on the music charts this week.
* Clay Aiken: The season two runner-up’s new album takes an expected tumble after debuting at number nine a week ago. This week, “Tried and True” checks in at number 47 on the Billboard 200.
* Bucky Covington: “A Father’s Love,” Bucky’s latest single, moves up another spot on the country singles chart. It’s now number 26. Bucky’s next album is due out later this year.
* Daughtry: The band’s second album, “Leave This Town,” drops from 72 to 84 on the Billboard 200.
* Fantasia: “Bittersweet,” the second three winner’s new single, continues to advance on the R&B / Soul singles chart. It’s up to number 18, marking a five-spot jump in the past two weeks.
* Danny Gokey: “My Best Days,” his debut album, is still number 34 on the county album chart, down two spots. The video to his second single, “I Will Not Say Goodbye,” is set to debut this weekend on CMT.
* Adam Lambert: The Glam Nation tour isn’t helping Adam’s chart status, at least not yet. “For Your Entertainment” tumbled from 78 to 116 on the Billboard 200 this week. The “Whataya Want From Me” single held tight at number 40 on the Hot 100, and is now number 10 on the adult contemporary chart, one spot above its standing a week ago.
Gone from the Hot 100 this week: Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze, who had had Idol performances there for the past two weeks. Gone from the Billboard 200 this week: The Idol season nine compilation album, which checked in at 131 a week ago.
