And it’s a fun take on the song as Clark serenades a dark-haired beauty.
He even plays drums, plays the saxophone and drops to his knees during a guitar solo in an effort to win her over.
The song comes from “Year One,” the five-track EP Clark released earlier this month.
It’s his first major release since finishing second on Season 14 of American Idol three years ago.
Clark explained why it took so long during a recent Facebook live chat with friends, explaining that, as a former street performer in Nashville and an independent artist, it took time to line up producers and background musicians, and more time to raise the money to finance the project.
“Then I had such a creative exact vision that I wanted that it took a lot of time to get that perfectly,” the 26-year-old said. “Because I wasn’t going to just release something that was haphazardly done.”
With the connections made from this EP now in place, he promised “the next project is not going to take this much time.”
As for the EP’s title, it’s adopted from a “Batman: Year One” comic book.
“I’m a huge Batman fan,” Clark says in that Facebook live chat. “‘Year One’ is about Batman coming back from training and learning how to be Batman. And coming back to Gotham like, ‘Okay, now I’m starting from square one. How do I fight crime?’ It’s his first year trying to figure out and struggling to become what he’s meant to be.
“That’s how I feel about this year, the past couple of years,” Clark added. “I’m capable of doing what I need to do, but I’m stumbling my way through getting connections and finding the means to do things.”
You can follow Clark through his website or Facebook page. On Twitter, he’s simply @ClarkBeckham.
The music video follows. And Clark says physical copies of the new EP, featuring comic book style cover art, should be available next month.
