Kirk Jay says he learned a simple lesson from the battle round on The Voice.
“I learned to not get complacent and continue to work hard so that I can come out on top,” he told Voice Views.
“Competing against other great artists is challenging, but you learn something about yourself throughout the process. I learned that I can be resilient.”
Kirk won a battle round match that The Voice montaged last week, meaning the show aired just a snippet of it.
He was matched with Caeland Garner in a Team Blake Shelton showdown in which they sang David Nail’s “Let It Rain.”
“It was a great experience,” Kirk said. “(Caeland) is an awesome guy with a big heart and a great personality. I am truly a fan of his. He motivated me to do better and sing harder.”
As for the song, Kirk said he loved the choice.
“It allowed us to show our range,” he said. “The lyrics were amazing. We pretty much kept everything simple because the song was passionate enough to exploit our talents.”
Kirk Jay, 22, of Bay Minette, Ala., turned all four chairs during the blinds, an experience he said left him feeling “like a kid on Christmas day.”
We’ll next see him perform Monday during the knockout round. He’s scheduled to go up against Colton Smith. And Kirk will be a heavy favorite since Colton’s a stolen artist who turned one chair in the blinds.
Pre-Voice, Kirk fronted his own country band, Kirk Jay and Kuntry Funk.
“This experience has been awesome; life-changing to say the least,” Kirk told Voice Views. “Being able to pursue your dreams is one thing, but being able to live out your dreams is another. I feel so blessed to have made it this far. Nothing should ever be taken for granted.”
