But that’s not because she’s previously been a contestant on another singing show.
In 2017, Evelyn, then 18, and her husband David Vázquez Zermeño were featured on the fifth season of TLC’s “90-Day Fiance.”
That’s a show about couples facing the decision of whether to proceed with their plans to marry after one party arrives in the U.S. on a 90-day fiance visa.
Here’s more about Evelyn:
* Evelyn’s aspirations of a career in music played a central part in her role on the TLC show. David, from Granada, Spain, began communicating with her after finding her music page on Facebook. And while he wanted the couple to relocate to the D.C. area, she insisted they stay in Claremont, N.H., near her family. She often performs with her father and brother.
* The latest single released by Evelyn dropped in January and is called “Yard Sale Guitar.” Evelyn explained the song’s genesis on Facebook. She got a guitar at a yard sale when she was 13. “My dad showed me a few chords and once I learned those, he showed me a few more. Thanks, Dad!”
* That’s the latest of six singles Evelyn has released. In 2018, she released four, “Window Pains,” “Nickle and Dimes,” “A Little Wild” and “Eyes.” She released a five-song debut EP, “Ghosts,” in 2017.
* On her website, Evelyn says her influences range from The Cure, Lana Del Ray, The Cranberries, Dinosaur Jr, to Elvis Presley.
* At one point, Evelyn launched a Patreon campaign to help support her music, but added this on Twitter: “I don’t write music for the hopes of making money. It’s never been about money. I do it because it is air to me. It is an amazing privilege, I can’t stop, it is life to me. I’m not interested in ‘the music business’ I’m interested in making music and if some people want to hear it, I’m over the moon thrilled.”
* On Facebook, Evelyn says she’s also been teaching music and French at a Christian school near her home and leads worship at Lake Sunapee Baptist Church with her father most Sundays.

I have been following Evelyn for some time since she made her debut on 90 Dy Fiance. At first I was very impressed by her attractiveness and her values and the fact that she was a musician. However as the segments unfolded I got to see a different side of her that was anything but good. She behaved very selfishly with her then faince about the wedding plans. She was very unkind to one of her very good friends who was trying to point out some issues about marrying so young. She showed a very small mindedness about the world in general–thinking that her town is superior to any place else. And her talent is just average if that. She and her now husband need to move to someplace like LA so she can get proper training for her music and he can find a decent job. So far she seems fixated on clinging to her little town and family. She says she is fluent in French–but that has been proven wrong–she just tries to be things that she is not. I trust that American Idol will chose a better person than Evelyn, Maybe in time she will improve her people and music skills-and maybe in time she will live in an area that will challenge her and mature her abilities. But for now–she is not the winner.
I really don’t get the hype here. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. There is so much real talent this season that it seems a waste of time for her to be in the competition at this point.
