Kelly Clarkson was in disbelief when she was the only Voice coach to turn for Presley Tennant during the blind auditions.
Indeed, Presley proved that was an underestimation of her abilities, turning in a series of strong performances that took her all the way to the show’s Top 24.
And she did it as one of the show’s youngest contestants; from Norco, Calif., Presley was 16 when she auditioned for The Voice.
Nevertheless, she’s already released several singles, including four in 2018.
More new music is on the way, she tells Voice Views. Here’s what the talented teen had to say about that and her time on the show.
Voice Views: Which was your favorite performance on The Voice and why?
Presley: My favorite performance that I did on the show was my Top 24 song, which was “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” by Mark Ronson ft. Miley Cyrus. I really loved working with Kelly and The Voice Band, which is one of the best bands in the world, and transform the song to fit my style. While being 16, I haven’t had many things break my heart, but leaving The Voice Family was such a heart break. I can now relate to the song so much more than I could have ever imagined.
Voice Views: Where do you see your time on the show leading you musically? What do you have planned next?
Presley: My time on the show has encouraged me to want more. I knew I loved to perform but this has solidified my love for it. I loved working with The Voice Band so I would love to follow in that direction with a band and dancers. I’m hoping to be able to land a record deal as I think that would be just another piece to my musical journey that would keep the ball rolling. Currently, we are talks of booking upcoming shows and releasing new music.
Voice Views: Do you think you’ll be releasing new music in the future. If so, what can you tell me about that? And, what can fans expect in terms of sound/timing?
Presley: I am releasing new music very very soon. I am starting with a ballad as a single, and will be following it up with an EP that will include some mid & serious up tempo pop tunes. It is coming very soon, stay tuned!!
Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist as a result of The Voice experience? If so, in what way?
Presley: The entire experience allowed me to grow as an artist. In wardrobe, I was able to experiment with different styles and looks that normally I wouldn’t have chosen. The glam team made me feel like a superstar, especially in my “Christina inspired look” for my last performance. Most importantly, I grew tremendously as an artist by being surrounded by Kelly Clarkson, The Voice Band, and all the fellow artists. It really opened my eyes to all sorts of genres, styles, etc. and I was really inspired being around people with such amazing talents.
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about your experience on the show?
Presley: My experience on the show has been a life changing experience and I certainly will cherish every moment of it. I truly fee blessed to be given such an opportunity and cannot wait to share the world what’s coming up next!
