First, I’ve been researching artists rumored to have earned spots on Season 17 of The Voice. You’ll be seeing those blogs soon.
Second, my wife and I just got back from vacationing at our favorite spot, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
And while there, we took in a show called Time Warp at the Carolina Opry, featuring a cast covering hits from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s.
“Hmm,” I thought as I took my seat. “Wonder if there are any cast members here I might be familiar with after more than 10 years of blogging about singing shows?”
Sure enough, I flipped open the program to discover that the newest member of the Carolina Opry cast is Delvin Choice.
Don’t remember, Delvin?
Sporting a hairstyle he called “The Lobster,” Delvin won a spot on Team Adam Levine for Season 6 of The Voice.
Twenty-four at the time, he made it all the way to the Top 8 and cracked the Top 10 on the iTunes R&B singles chart twice during that season’s run of live shows.
Five years later, the lobster has been toned down. But Delvin was in fine voice during the Time Warp show, dazzling the audience with covers of “My Girl,” “A Change is Gonna Come,” “Feel It All Over” and “Everyday People,” the latter coming during a Woodstock segment in the show.
He also delivered a splendid duet of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” with one of his female cast mates, and showed off some nifty dance moves over the course of the show.
Delvin, from Greenville, S.C., said he considers joining the Carolina Opry cast one of his biggest accomplishments.
“Here, I am finally able to do what I love for a living,” he says. “And, on top of that, I share the stage with some of the most talented musicians and singers on this side of the Mason Dixon.”
If you’re in Myrtle Beach looking for something to do, I’d highly recommend the show. Delvin’s part of a talented cast that also includes male and female dance teams and a comedy bit.
