Brennan Lassiter of The Voice Season 17

Brennan Lassiter of The Voice Season 17

Her audition: Brennan Lassiter, 20, of Dacusville, S.C., performed “You Are My Sunshine.” Brennan promised a country-fied version of her audition song, and then delivered just that, with a very impressive vocal growl thrown in for good measure. She also showed tons of stage presence for someone who said she really hasn’t performed outside of church. The combination turned all four chairs, making Brennan just the second singer in Season 17 to accomplish that feat. And though Kelly Clarkson seemed resigned to losing the country singer to Blake, Brennan opted to join Team Kelly.

Here’s more about Brennan.

* Brennan told The Voice her parents had her when they were very young so she was raised mostly by her grandparents.

* In fact, she said her blind audition song was a tribute to them because they’ve been her “sunshine.”

* According to her Voice bio, she fell in love with singing around age 6 when she would stand in the back of her dad’s truck and put on shows for his hunting buddies.

* She started singing at age 12 in the church where her grandfather was the pastor. And she told Voice Views she has led worship there the past few years.

* A graduate of Pickens High School, she won the talent portion of a pageant there with her vocals, but says The Voice blind audition marks “the very first time I’ve stepped out for music.”

* Brennan works at a chiropractic office.

* “I definitely want to pursue music,” she told Voice Views. “I really don’t know how to describe my sound. I love all genres. However, country is my roots, I love country music and I hope it’s in my future. But I don’t ever want to put myself in a box. I want to get creative with my music, & be different.”
