Okay, lesson time.

Here’s why it would be so helpful to showcase the new music from past Voice contestants on the show.

An hour before tonight’s episode aired, I checked the iTunes charts.

I couldn’t find Kaleb Lee’s “I Dream Southern” on the Top 200 overall singles chart or the Top 200 country singles chart.

Then Kaleb performed the song on The Voice, accompanied by Kelly Clarkson, who also sings on the official single.

Presto.

Two hours after the show, the song is number five on the iTunes country chart.

It’s number 28 on the site’s overall singles chart.

Why The Voice can’t extend that simple courtesy to other former contestants baffles me.

Why they foist “guest stars” like Tones & I on viewers instead does too.

But the numbers presented above show how much of a difference a guest appearance on the show can mean to a former contestant trying to establish himself or herself in the music industry.

That The Voice doesn’t extend that helping hand to more past contestants is an absolute disgrace.
