His audition: Thunderstorm Artis, 24, of Haleiwa, Hawaii, auditioned with “Blackbird” by The Beatles. Thunderstorm’s impressive acoustic opening prompted quick chair turns from Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas. Midway through, Blake turned as well, giving Thunderstorm a four-chair turn. Nick said his “vocal control was just perfect.” Kelly said Thunderstorm could win the show, especially if he puts his own twist on classic songs. John said Thunderstorm’s tone is “magical.” Thunderstorm joined Team Legend.

* On Twitter, he describes himself as a singer-songwriter, born and raised in Hawaii and “changing the world one song at a time.” He’s now based in Hendersonville, Tenn.

* He hails from a musical family. His father, Ron, played keyboards on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album, according to Thunderstorm’s web bio. His mother, Victoria, toured as a backing vocalist for Lena Horne and other Motown artists.

* Thunderstorm started performing at age 7. According to his Voice bio, the siblings formed a family band and would play at their father’s art gallery, attracting tourists from all over the world.

* When Thunderstorm was 13, his dad died of a heart attack. He said his oldest brother, Ron Artis II, took him under his wing and they toured together, both in the U.S. and abroad.

* Thunderstorm has also performed with Mick Fleetwood, Jack Johnson and Booker T., among others.

* And he says his music covers a broad range of genres, including folk, soul, rock and country.

* He recently turned 24 and said 2019 was a year filled with highlights, including a nine-day move to Nashville and his first “legit solo tour,” which last much longer — six months.
