Vaeda Black, a singer-songwriter from Long Island, auditioned for American Idol Season 18

And among the singers who auditioned is Vaeda Black.

Here’s more about Vaeda.

* She’s an 18-year-old singer-songwriter who grew up on Long Island, in suburbs of New York City.

* She describes her music as alt pop (it has a dark pop bent) and describes herself on Instagram as “artist, writer, eternally exhausted & a bit of a creep.”

* She puts the creepiness to good use on the 2018 single “Suicide Love.” You can check out the music video below.

* Along with 2019’s “Run Fast” and 2017’s “Face Down,” that’s one of three singles she’s released to date. Another — “Drunken Tears” — is set for release March 13. In 2019, her songs were streamed nearly 32,000 times on Spotify.

* In 2018, Buzznet published a piece called “Five Female Powerhouses to Watch.” Vaeda made that list. So did — ready — Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello and Julia Michaels. That’s pretty heady company.

* Vaeda’s web bio says she grew up in a musical and artistic household and got involved in music herself at a young age.

* That included participating in grade school talent shows and musical theater productions. And in a 2017 interview, Vaeda credited her musical theater experience with improving her on-stage confidence and stage presence.

* Vaeda performed at the National Association of Music Merchants gathering last January. Here’s what she told Backstage 360 about her music: “I really want to do this for the rest of my life. I don’t want to limit myself to a genre. I want to try to do things that are different and that are true to me.”

* Other major performances to date include the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, Arlene’s Grocery and the Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, all since 2018.
