Quarterfinals, The Voice

A shocking elimination on a brutally bad night for The Voice

6

Wow, can anyone out there tell me what gibberish the judges were spouting on The Voice Monday night?

I mean, what were they hearing?  Whom were they judging?

Surely not the same eight contestants I heard.

Otherwise, they couldn’t possibly have been nearly so complimentary.

Folks, that was bad with a capital “B.”   Brutal with a capital “B.”

Probably the worst ever episode of The Voice.

Female rocker Jordis Unga tried to sing a country song.  Erin Willett  tried to sing Adele.  And failed miserably.

Someone convinced Ashley De La Rosa to turn “Foolish Games” into a rock song.  On her 18th birthday, no less.

Now that’s foolish.

In fact, I’m convinced poor song choices have more to do with this show’s failure than anything else.

Because most of these contestants are very talented singers.   But you wouldn’t know that by anything that transpired Monday night.

The recap:

Best of the Night:  Lindsey Pavao sang Katy Perry’s “Part of Me,” and it was probably the best match of singer and song.  Not nearly as good as her rendition of “Somebody That I Used to Know,” but easily the best performance from Christina’s very talented team. Jermaine Paul hit a couple big notes and finished his version of “Against All Odds” with a flourish.  A little overbaked.  But, again, easily the best from Team Blake.

Worst of the Night:  Erin Willett can sing well.  We’ve heard her do it.  But tackling Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” was too big a task.  She seemed to be shouting as much as singing.  Ashley was impressive two weeks ago, commanding the stage and showing not a hint of nerves at 17.   But “Foolish Games” was barely recognizable.

Highlight of the Night:  Maroon 5 debuted a new song, “Payphone,” featuring Wiz Khalifa.  And it sounds like a hit.

Lowlight of the Night:  The group numbers.  They should have offered a respite from the horrors of the solo performances.  They didn’t.  Christina dressed like a stripper.  Then her team rocked out, backed by a high school gospel choir.  Yep, you read right.  Blake had his team, which includes one country singer, sing a country song.  Problem was, the country singer (RaeLynn) sounded the worst singing it.  And no one besides Blake sounded very good.

Elimination #1:   Christina surprisingly sent Jesse Campbell home.  Hmm, I thought he was supposed to be a front-runner.  She should have sent Chris Mann packing.  But I was just glad Ashley De La Rosa didn’t pay the price for what I suspect was someone else’s stupid song choice.

Elimination #2:  Blake sent Jordis home.   He should have sent Erin home.  But as long as Jermaine stayed, it really didn’t matter.  No one else on his team has a chance of winning.

Tomorrow night:  The top vote-getter from each team will be saved, then the judge will save one other contestant.  That means two more eliminations in the hour-long show that begins at 9 p.m.

Who should go:   Chris Mann from Team Christina and Erin Willett from Team Blake.

You know why Jesse was eliminated- last week Lindsey charted 23, Chris Mann charted at 77 and Jesse charted at 80. And you heard why Blake sent Jordis home- because America didn’t give her enough votes last week.

First Tony Vincent, now Jesse Campbell. I didn’t even feel like voting after that. But viewers not voting is probably the main reason these people were eliminated.Coaches are not going to send their top two home.I hope NBC realizes what a big mistake they made by having an instant elimination by the coaches. Christina is probably getting a ton of hate tweets right now. Still she has 3 final contestants that could win this. I predict that Cee lo will vote Cheesa off and Adam will vote off Katrina.

Awful, awful. Just awful. Jesse, while not perfect was MUCH better than “pitchy” Lindsey. She’s awful. Just give it time. Jesse got plenty of exposure on the show. He’ll have work after this.

All of the artists I liked are gone, namely Jamie Lono, Sarah Golden and Angel Taylor. I’m not even bothering to watch any more.

These judges need to clear out the wax in their ears. the people who are sent home only for the mediocre to stay, is just unbelievable. the talent from last year was much much better. this selection is sad. we all know it.. charts or no. and why the heck lindsey is still on there is beyond my comprehension other than obviously the public doesn’t want TRUE singing to win out other than a select few. but the way the judges are judging those talented few will go home too. obviously christina doesn’t want anyone to upstage her, that’s why she keeps picking lindsey. the crying was just over the top. i forgot, she’s an actress too.
