Adam Lambert has released his first new song since June 2017 and is preparing to release his first album since 2015.

And with a new management team and new label in tow, it marks something of a fresh start for the 37-year-old former American Idol runner-up.

In a long Facebook post Thursday, Adam thanked fans for their patience and explained “a dark period of second-guessing my own artistry and having my mental health suffer because of it.”

He calls the new song — “Feel Something,” which you can check out below — a gift to fans before he releases a first official single from the upcoming album.

Here’s what he says about the song.

“This was written about me climbing out of the low period, defying my disillusionment, owning my needs, and opening my heart.

“The life of a bachelor can be a laugh, with plenty of flings, but after awhile it starts to feel empty. Between frustrations with my career and many lost connections, I felt numb — and though I wanted to fall in love, I knew I wasn’t ready.

“That’s what inspired me to cry out, ‘I don’t need to feel love, I just want to feel something!’ It was in this realization that I took my first step toward self-care and nursing my spirit back to health. This song is the emotional starting point of my new album.”

Of course, Adam has continued to front Queen throughout. And he’ll be performing with them during Sunday’s Oscar ceremony on ABC. “Bohemian Rhapsody,” after all, is up for Best Picture.

The new album will be released through EMPIRE. No word yet on a release date.
