Back on charts, York-bound Casey James likes Idol’s ‘choice’

Look who’s back on the country singles chart?

It’s York-bound Casey James, whose new single “Crying on a Suitcase” was one of the big gainers on the Billboard chart this week, moving up from 34 to 30.

The song is the second to chart from Casey’s debut album, released earlier this year. “Let’s Don’t Call It a Night” made it to number 21 on the chart earlier this year.

As for the York-bound part, if you hadn’t heard, Casey will be playing the York Fair Radio Stage at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. It’s a free show with the price of admission to the fair, sponsored by WGTY, Great Country 107.7 FM.

I interviewed Casey about the song, the album and the upcoming show Wednesday and will be posting that interview soon.

I also asked Casey about who he would recommend since Idol seems determined to add a country judge to its panel.

In short, if the Keith Urban rumors are true, Casey James is onboard.

“Just off the top of the my head, someone I appreciate and admire in the country world is Keith Urban,” Casey said. “I think, obviously, because I’m a guitar player, I appreciate his chops. But he’s a great performer. I think he understands the music world because he’s been-there, done-that long enough. He has a great personality, and he’d do a good job. That’s off the top of my head. There are a million people in this business that I think would do a great job.”
