Brooke White delivers ‘High Hopes and Heartbreak’

There’s a story behind Brooke White’s latest single, “Radio, Radio.”

It has to do with a decrepit TV.

And Brooke shared it during a live Webcast last week.

“When I was a kid, we grew up listening to music non-stop pretty much because we had a piece of crap television that was about 15 inches and had a very unclear screen and we all had to take turns smacking the side of it just so we could watch it,” Brooke explained.

“Hence, we listened to the radio. My life kind of revolved around the radio, with my mix tape all ready to go, waiting for my favorite songs so I could hit record. (”Radio, Radio”) is kind of a song dedicated to the radio, as if it was a person.”

“Radio, Radio” has the number one spot on Brooke’s new CD, “High Hopes and Heartbreak,” which went on sale Tuesday from iTunes (at the bargain price of $7.99) and hits stores next Tuesday. The video from “Radio, Radio” is also available on iTunes this week as a free download.

Now, back to the Thursday Webcast. Brooke said she’d been touring soon, but played coy about who she’d be touring with.

Shortly thereafter, a report surfaced on Michael Johns’ fan site that the two would be touring together.

If so, sorta makes sense. Both of their albums were produced by Dave Cobb. Brooke recorded a duet, “Life is OK,” with Michael earlier this year. And Michael shares a writing credit “Little Bird,” one of the best tracks on Brooke’s new album.

The report on the fan site lists 11 tour dates, most out West, none on the East Coast.

Hopefully when the real tour announcement comes, we’ll learn that’s only the beginning of their tour together.

Meanwhile, folks, what do you think of “High Hopes and Heartbreak”?
