Cait Martin became just the fifth singer to turn all four chairs on The Voice Season 23 Monday night.
She also became the first four-chair turn recipient to join Team Kelly Clarkson heading into Tuesday’s final blind audition show.
That means each coach has a four-chair turn artist on their team, including Neil Salsich of Team Blake, NOIVAS of Team Chance and Ryley Tate Wilson and Ross Clayton of Team Niall.
Meanwhile, just when I was about to congratulate The Voice on showcasing every artist who turned a chair in Season 23, the show did what I consider the inexcusable.
They montaged Alyssa Lazar, a talented 24-year-old from Scanton, Pa., who’s already released music.
Understand, singers spent about a month preparing for that blind audition. I can’t imagine how disappointing it is to earn a spot on the show, then have your blind audition wind up on the cutting room floor.
And The Voice did this on a night when the show featured three singers who failed to turn a chair. And in a season in which they had already featured six no-chair turns heading into Monday’s show.
Sorry, but that’s inexcusable, Voice producers.
On with the recap. Follow the links to learn more about the singers. And you can learn more about Alyssa Lazar and her music here.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
Cait Martin, 32, Atlanta, Ga. “As It Was” by Harry Styles: Her opening prompted a quick chair turn from Kelly Clarkson. Niall Horan followed. As Cait’s vocals soared, Chance the Rapper and Blake Shelton followed. That, folks, was a pitch-perfect performance and there haven’t been too many four-chair turns in Season 21. Kelly called Cait’s performance “so excellent” and loved the twist she put on the song. Chance called her tone reminiscent of Whitney Houston. Cait joined Team Kelly.
RUNNERS UP
Rachel Christine, 22, Wisc., “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissette: Rachel was right. This is a difficult cover to pull off. And she nailed it. Showing off a big, impressive voice in the process. Chance the Rapper turned early in the song. Kelly Clarkson joined her at the last second. Kelly was impressed with the performance but said she’d encourage Rachel to be a little more wild with her approach. Chance said Rachel has an “amazing tone” and he can see her winning the show. Rachel joined Team Kelly.
Gina Miles, 18, Paxton, Illinois, “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry: She showed off a very nice tone from the opening note and got a quick chair turn from Kelly Clarkson. She’s got a great pop sound and Niall Horan recognized it too. Niall called her performance incredible and praised her control. Kelly said she’s a really big fan of Gina’s voice. Gina opted to join Team Niall.
ALSO MADE THE SHOW
Kason Lester, 33, Lebanon, Tenn., “It’s Not Over” by Daughtry: His rock cover enticed an early chair turn from Blake Shelton. Oh, and if Kason’s background story of working on a strawberry farm sounds familiar, it’s because he was on American Idol a couple of years back. Blake wound up being the only chair turn for Kason. He said he loved Kason’s gritty vocals.
JB Somers, 31, Montgomery, Ala., “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell: JB’s delicate opening prompted a quick chair turn from Kelly Clarkson. Chance the Rapper turned when JB nailed a high note, showing off his range. Kelly called his tone “incredible” and predicted he has the potential to make the finale. Chance loved his range and said he doesn’t have anyone like JB on his team. JB opted to join Team Kelly.
Mariah Kalia, 17, Jacksonville, Fla., “Idon’twannabeyouanymore” by billie eilish: Her opening enticed almost immediate chair turns from Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan. Mariah showed off great range and delivered a really nice ending, but Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton stayed put. Chance said he was blown away by her voice and her stage presence. Niall said he felt like he was hearing a young Amy Winehouse. Mariah joined Team Chance.
Kylee Dayne, 19, Carrollton, Texas, “Fallingwater” by Maggie Rogers: For a long time, no one turned. Then Chance the Rapper and Blake Shelton turned simultaneously. Niall Horan turned right before the performance ended. Chance loved Kylee’s control. Niall called her voice “really sweet.” Blake said Kylee showed the potential to put together a “killer performance.” Kylee opted to join Team Blake.
Ray Uriel, 24, Gary, Indiana, “Glimpse of Us” by Joji: Ray showed off a great tone from the opening note. He also impressed with his range. He enticed a chair turn from Chance the Rapper at the very last second, landing Ray for his team. Chance said Ray sounds to him like a recording artist and said he’s excited to work with him.
Alyssa Lazar, 24, Scranton, Pa., “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney: She joined Team Chance in a montaged audition, meaning we only saw a small snippet of it.

Yet another talented singer gets montaged.
You react with outrage, instead of other “Voice” recappers who just list the contestant’s name and the grade of N/A.
Every “Voice” story is about Blake.
It’s his last season, his bromance with Niall, his verbal jousting with Chance.
His self-adoration.
Who will replace Blake.
In it’s prime, “American Idol” would turn anonymous singers into stars.
With “The Voice” and “Idol” it’s the coaches and the judges who get the attention and fame.
Instead of replacing Blake, NBC should cancel the voice
