JB Somers from The Voice Season 23

JB Somers is one of the artists to announce they auditioned for Season 23 of The Voice.

The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, March 6.

Here’s more on JB:

* He’s a singer-songwriter from Montgomery, Alabama, who’s now based in Nashville.

* And he’s one of many Season 23 contestants on The Voice who has already released music.

* He grew up the son of a pastor in an Evangelical church where he became a worship leader for his youth group.

* In his Spotify bio, he says that background inspired him to create music that “made a difference” but also prevented him from “expressing his sexuality.”

* He moved to Nashville in 2020 to pursue music and released four singles in 2021.

* In 2022, he released his debut EP, “They Save I’ve Changed,” featuring the song “There for Me.”

* He also came out as gay, sharing his story with People and his hometown Montgomery Advertiser.

* When he wrote “There for Me,” the song was about how people would react if he didn’t make it in music or create the life he planned.

* After coming out, the meaning changed, he told People. “It really became this anthem for me to say, ‘Now that you see all of me and, you know every piece of who I am and there’s nothing hidden anymore, will you still be there for me?'”

* In September 2022, he released “Build This Love,” his latest single. There’a also a music video, which you can check out below.

* On his website, the pop / alternative artist says his inspirations include Hozier, Sam Smith, Joni Mitchell, Chris Stapleton and Brooke Ligertwood.

* On that site, JB also says he “aims to utilize his platform to encourage others to live freely and love every part of their identity and journey, because everyone was created with a purpose.”
