Who turned in the most popular performance on American Idol Sunday night?

Catie Turner, the quirky aspiring rock star. In a landslide.

As of noon Monday, Catie’s Sunday night performance of “Take Me to Church” had been viewed nearly half a million times on YouTube.

Her next nearest competitor: Gabby Barrett, who closed Sunday’s show with an excellent cover of “The Climb.”

That should be good omen for Catie heading into tonight’s American Idol. Six singers will advance via fan voting.

Then the other eight members of the Top 14 will perform, hoping to get one of four wild card spots form the judges.

Here’s how the performances stacked up at noon in terms of YouTube views. Note that the top four viewed videos are from female cast members.

Will voting follow the same trend? If so, it would be a refreshing change on Idol. On FOX’s version, cute guys drew more votes than talented ladies season after season after season.
