The band Daughtry has released its first new single in nearly a year.

And band leader Chris Daughtry told fans this week that he’s “never been more proud of a song in my career.”

The song is “World on Fire,” the single dropped Thursday and, two days later, was still sitting in the Top 5 on Apple Music’s rock singles chart.

“I wrote it in January, when Australia was on fire,” Chris told fans via Facebook live earlier this week.

“We got the song done, then the whole pandemic happened, George Floyd, everything started happening. If was as if we had a crystal ball. Let’s just say it’s very timely.”

Judging from comments on Chris’ Facebook page, it was also just what fans wanted to hear from the rock band which last released an album (“Cage to Rattle”) in the summer of 2018.

Check out some of those comments.

* Suzy Bell: “Just listened to the new song 😍 Daughtry back to their best…..love it.”

* Jeff Sodusta: “This might have been the best song you put out so far since the first two albums. Wow.”

* Andrew Dorman: “FINALLY! Right where Chris’ vocals deserve to be. ROCK.”

* Hasan Veli: “What can I say? AMAZING. I love it!!!! This is the rock track we’ve been screaming out for during what’s been a pretty f***ed up 2020!!! Thank you Daughtry!”

For those who would like to hear more from Chris, he’s got a whole series of Live from Home virtual shows planned through the end of September.

He’s also a featured artist participating in the DC Fandome on Aug. 22.
