David Archuleta of American Idol fame, poses for photographers on the red carpet as he goes in to record the Spanish language version of 'We Are The World' (Somos el Mundo) with other top Latin music artists Friday in Miami. (AP Photo/Wilfredo Lee)I didn’t even know this was going on, until I just saw a tweet from season seven American Idol runner-up David Archuleta.

Today in Miami, more than 50 Latin artists — David included — gathered to film a Spanish language version of “We Are the World,” titled “Somos El Mundo.”

“We Are the World” was adapted into Spanish by Gloria and Emilio Esteban. The project was headed by Emilio, Qunicy Jones and Univision Communications Inc.

And, of course, like it’s English-language counterpart, proceeds from the sales of the song will go to benefit earthquake victims in Haiti.

Other performers helping with the recording included Carlos Santana, Andy Garcia, Kat De Luna and Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas.

The music video will make its world-wide premiere on “El Show de Cristina” (The Cristina Show) on the Univision Network on March 1 at 10 p.m. EST. An exclusive one-hour, behind-the-scenes special will also air on the Univision Network at a later date to be announced.

David clearly enjoyed the experience, based on his Twitter comment.

“Had an awesome day here in Miami! It was a neat experience being with so many great and talented Latinos for ‘Somos El Mundo,’ he wrote.

Of course, it was just last fall that young David won Best New Artist honors at the ALMA Awards, which celebrate the achievements of Latinos in music, television and sports.
