You might say Destiny Rayne took a risk during The Voice Season 17 blind auditions.

She sang a song for that audition — “To Make You Feel My Love” by Adele — that she’d never performed before.

It all worked out just fine for the 23-year-old from Coral Springs, Fla..

Her rendition prompted chair turns from John Legend and Gwen Stefani.

And after John praised her performance, Destiny opted to join Team Legend for Season 17.

Here’s what Destiny told Voice Views about her blind audition.

Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for The Voice Season 17 and what prompted you to do it?

Destiny: I have always been a fan of The Voice — the opportunity and platform The Voice gives is so unique and special that I knew it was something I was definitely interested in pursuing to further my singing career. So, I auditioned for The Voice two years ago at an open call and did not make it.

Because of that, I would still get emails from The Voice and, one day, I got an email for a new thing The Voice was hosting called “open mic nights,” which was unrelated to the show and just a chance to perform some of your original music at a cafe in LA. So I sent in a video for that. In return I got an email replying back that The Voice had invited me to a callback audition!

Voice Views: Why did you choose “To Make You Feel My Love” for your audition song? Is that a song you’ve performed often?

Destiny: “To Make You Feel My Love” is actually a song I have never preformed. At the time I was teaching voice lessons and I had given one of my vocal students this song as her repertoire and I recognized this song represented my style well, and I found a connection with it. I knew this song would be perfect for my audition!

Voice Views: Why did you decide to join Team Legend? And what was that blind audition experience like?

Destiny: I decided to Join team Legend because of what John has said to me. I had set certain goals that I wanted to achieve in my audition for the coaches. I wanted them to feel the emotion and connection I had with the song.

One of the things John had mentioned was he felt the lyrics through the way I was singing and the emotion behind it. He was able to see my heart in the song, and I knew that he would be the best coach and fit for me.

The blind audition was SURREAL. It honestly was a dream come true in every way. Standing on the stage and getting to sing for artists that I look up to so much was nerve wracking but exciting! I just couldn’t believe it was all happening!
