Faith Becnel was among the talented singers eliminated Sunday when American Idol cut its field from a Top 20 to a Top 11.
Faith, 20 when she auditioned for Idol, has been performing in cover bands around Louisiana since she was 10 and fronting her own cover band for years.
But she hasn’t released music since a CD when she was just 12. That, she says, is about to change as she shares her power, soulful, Louisiana flavored vocals on music that’s her own.
On Idol, Faith performed “Lady Marmalade” to earn her golden ticket to Hollywood and was named part of the Top 20 following a performance of “Ain’t Nobody” by Rufus & Chaka Khan during the Hawaii showcase round.
Here’s what Faith told Idol Chatter about her American Idol experience.
Idol Chatter: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from the American idol experience?
Faith: I learned who I am, what I want to represent, and that I have the skills to make it happen. I am working diligently on my original music, and continuously pursuing my career. I hope to inspire my fans to be the person they dream of being by taking a step to become that person that makes them happy.
Idol Chatter: Which was your favorite American Idol performance and why?
Faith: I really loved my Hawaii performance because it was absolutely a dream come true. Having a crowd’s full attention and all of their energy was amazing. I cannot wait until I release my music, and crowds are at my shows for my music. When I have a vision, if I put my faith in God, he will give me the desires of my heart, so stay tuned everyone!
Idol Chatter: What was the experience like, performing for American Idol — and fans around the country — from your own home?
Faith: Performing from home was definitely unique and unfortunate due to missing out on the traditional Idol experience. Now that my Idol journey is over, I wish we would have had the stage experience, but once again, that wasn’t God’s plan for us. Performing from home allowed me to work on certain skills that I needed work in, so overall it was a positive, much needed, experience from home.
Idol Chatter: Obviously lots of plans are in limbo because of the pandemic, but what are your post-Idol plans musically? Where are you hoping this opportunity leads? Do you plan to release music anytime soon? If so, what can you say about the sound, the timing, etc.?
Faith: I recently recorded two of my original songs in a New Orleans studio, and I have four more coming. I will perform my songs throughout Louisiana until I reach a level to move to California and pursue my music there. I hope to eventually get signed for my original music, and have a team behind me.
Idol Chatter: Finally, is there anything else you’d like to add about the Idol experience?
Faith: American Idol was a journey that taught me more about myself and how to better myself in this industry. I learned so many necessary things, but most importantly, that I have what it takes to succeed. Please stay tuned to my journey! It is only the beginning. Thank you for the love and support!
