Holly Tucker, a standout on Season 4 of The Voice, released a new single this week.

Holly Tucker’s quest to write a sad song succeeded.

And on Friday, she released the result, a new single called “Country Music Won’t Let Me.”

Holly finished sixth for Team Blake Shelton on Season 4 of The Voice. She’s also the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year with the Texas Country Music Association.

She shares the story behind the new single in a pair of videos, one on her YouTube channel and another on her Facebook page.

A couple years back, Holly said she finished Top 8 in a songwriting competition hosted by Texas Songwriter U.

The industry experts she met provided a bit of advice: “They wanted to hear me break their hearts with my voice.”

But Holly says it isn’t easy for her to write sad songs because “I’m really a happy, optimistic person in general.”

Nevertheless, she took that advice into her next songwriting session in Nashville. She came out with a song about how country music often reminds listeners of past heartbreaks, making it more difficult to move on.

Hence the title: “County Music Won’t Let Me.”

This marks Holly’s second result single. “The Finer Things,” released in November, has made its way onto Texas country charts. And she’s hoping to release an EP this summer.

She also has lots of events coming up that you can check out on her website or Facebook page. They include a March 22 opening gig in Waco, Texas, for country legend Tanya Tucker.

Here’s “County Music Won’t Let Me.”
