Get ready to super vote on American Idol

1

Some pundits have called for vote limits on American Idol.

Instead, the show has devised a method for fans to cast 50 online votes in a single keystroke.

Mariah Carey and the rest of the American Idol judges go live Tuesday night. (FOX Photo)But before the vote-limit advocates shout “foul,” it does appear a fan will be limited to 50 online votes per Facebook account.

Of course, fans can still cast as many text and telephone votes as they’d like.

Here’s how it will work. Fans can head to Facebook, americanidol.com or Idol’s mobile app to cast their 50 votes. Regardless of the format, a Facebook log-in will be required.

They can divvy up their 50 votes among contestants as they see fit. Then they can cast the votes as soon as the show ends.

I’ll have to see how it works, but I sorta like the idea. It’s more viewer friendly than The Voice, which makes you click on Cassadee Pope’s photo 10 times to cast 10 votes.

Just keep this 50-votes-at-a-time in mind when Ryan starts talking about the record number of votes cast on a given night.

This new voting method has been cooked up in conjunction with AT&T, which was also in on last week’s #idolagree or #idoldisagree poll, taken at various times during the show via Twitter.

That little experiment needs some work.

During the show, it was tough to tell what you were supposed to agree or disagree with, especially after a critique from the judges that included wildly varied opinions.
