Maddie Poppe, Season 16 winner of American Idol, released a holiday EP on Friday.

The way it was delivered was as newsworthy as its release.

On Instagram, Maddie notes that it’s her first independent release since 2016’s “Songs from the Basement.”

That means she’s no longer part of the Hollywood Records / 19 Recordings roster, the label she signed with post-Idol and that released her 2019 album “Whirlwind.”

“Whirlwind” was not a whirlwind success on the charts, though two songs — “Made You Miss” and “Not Losing You” — cracked the Top 30 on Billboard’s adult pop chart.

The “Christmas From Home” EP features covers of five holiday classics, including “Jingle Bell Rock” and “O Holy Night.”

That fact that the EP was released independently “makes it very special to me,” Maddie, 22, wrote on social media.

“It gave me a chance to once again have total creative and musical control and I think you’ll hear that it’s genuine to my sound as you listen through each song.”

She gave special thanks to Drew Taubenfeld and Scott Thomas Robinson for their help producing the EP.

Maddie’s also about to embark on a seven-show Christmas acoustic tour in Iowa.

And this young lady still has an avid fan base. Two of those shows are already sold out.
